The notification issued on Tuesday giving executive magistrate powers to the Bangladesh Army will allow army officers to exercise their magisterial powers under 17 sections of the Bangladesh Criminal Procedure Code.
According to the notification, the army has been given this power under sections 64, 65, 83, 84, 95(2), 100, 105, 107, 109, 110, 126, 127, 128, 130, 133 and 142 of the Criminal Procedure Code 1898.
According to these sections of the Criminal Procedure Code, since the Executive Magistrate has got the responsibility, from now on, if any crime is committed in front of the army officers, the criminals can be arrested directly, and they can also grant bail.
Army officers can execute arrest warrant anywhere in Bangladesh. They can also instruct the police to execute the arrest warrant. Can carry out searches to rescue illegally detained persons.
Since the new interim government has taken over, the workers of many public and private institutions are seen blocking the roads and holding rallies for various demands.
According to the notification, from now on army officers will be able to disperse illegal gatherings. At the same time, the army can also use civilian forces to stop it.
