Two Chhatra Dal Leaders Arrested with Machetes While Fleeing from Army in Sylhet

On Thursday evening (July 3), the army detained two leaders of the Chhatra Dal along with local weapons in the Tilagarh area of Sylhet. The detainees are Morsalin Ahmed Aspia (19), president of the Shahjalal City College unit of Chhatra Dal, and Shahadat Hossain (27), president of the Greenhill State College unit. Two machetes were recovered from their possession.

It was reported that Minhaz Shikder, a Chhatra Dal leader from Sylhet Government College, held a meeting to resolve internal conflicts within the organization. After the meeting, he was attacked by rival members of his own party, prompting him to call for help over the phone.

In response, Morsalin and Shahadat were heading to the scene armed with machetes. However, upon seeing an army patrol on the way, they attempted to flee.

During the escape, Morsalin fell and broke his leg, while Shahadat also collapsed on the road. The army subsequently apprehended both of them and handed them over to Shah Paran Police Station. They were later admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for treatment.

Sylhet Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media), Mohammad Saiful Islam, confirmed the incident and stated that legal action will be taken against the detainees.
